A house that needs repairs, not a hostel

Nothing

Air conditioner stopped working, no remote so either freezing on full blast or none at all. Bathroom has a door that is not very secure and people can peek through the slots. Location is bad, was hard to get a cab. Beds were uncomfortable and hard, springs poking my back. Two dogs that are loud at times. In the morning you can hear people talking loud next to you, so no sleeping in. It's more of a house, not a hostel, and needs lots of repairs. Also, no key given for entrance.

Ultra cheap, very decent for the price.

Excellent price. Great Wi-Fi. Their dogs are wonderful. Family is nice. Quiet. Not perfect by any means, but I would stay at again.

TV didn't work. Shower was somewhat cool, but was okay because of the excessively hot weather.

We got a totally different room then what was promised when we made the booking. There were small coackroaches and the water didn’t work, so we couldnt shower

Air con gets rationed, neighborhood not the best after dark ( according to the taxi driver)

The Hostel Mama is just adorable, helpful, so authentic and super child friendly!!

The rooms are okay to stay for one or two nights but lack coziness and warmth. The air condition was a mystery to us, as it went on and off by a timer and the controller didn't work well. We could hear the owners watching TV really loud at night.

it was cool to be in a part of the city that wasn't super touristy

this place was pretty sketchy. I am 20 years old white female who went with my friend. I speak a little Spanish and she speaks nothing, but people told us that it was really sketchy to be walking around in this area. Don't bring your cameras, or anything else because its dangerous. Not much to do here, besides the market, but the catcalling was very bad. Glad. I went to experience a different part of the city but it was not luxourious by any means. ALSO there was no AC which was super super bad.

My favorite part about my stay here was definitely the family. They are so nice and welcoming. They were very patient and took the time to show me around Cartagena. I am definitely coming back !

What was the highlight of Casa Hostal el Prado

Ok, if you're not planning to stay more and if you think about going to the Bus Terminal from there.

Two things that I liked? The price (a trap, probably). The thing that there is a market (big one, in open air, I mean) at ten minutes of walk and other shopping possibilities close, including next door (same owner) for beer and water, for instance.

(I repeat: the owners have two little dogs. Not only they woke me up several times (by barking, of course), but they made their necessities in the small space next to our entrance (a kind of interior court, but small, covered with tiles). I think this is the usual norm, cause they don't seem to take them out for walks, nor to be surprised.) In addition to the "dog problem": They DO have air conditioning in the room (of four beds) I've been in, but they only put it to work when the fourth guy came in (around midnight on my second night); then, sometimes during the night one of the "sons" (I think) came and stopped it... (No explanation was ever given). I hardly slept few hours during the two nights... The location is somehow good if you're planning to go to the Bus Terminal after a short while, as I did. Only that I changed my plans...

THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO STAY. Great staff, very helpfull, even speaks good english. A little far from downtown, but accessible by bus, so its very easy to get around. We had many bad experiences in colombia, so I take the time to highlight the good hotels like this one and I hope you travelers choose wisely.

The family were lovely, place is clean and comfortable.

The family were lovely, place is clean and comfortable. Good WiFi - helpful when we needed to research and book things. Slight miscommunication with room booking and we arrived late but they worked us into a different room for the night and got us into our room first thing the next morning. Easily fixed and helpful thanks guys! It is about an hour walk into the old walled town, but this is an easy cheap taxi which they will happily call for you.
